You may think there are only a handful of ways to don a hijab. But you would be mistaken. Over the past years, hijab styling has become more and more creative and next week, the Islamic Fashion and Design Council will share expert tips on how to tie up.
Through a series of hijab tutorials at the 2015 International Textile Fair on 26 and 27 April, IFDC will present some creative stylists of this region within the fair’s Modest Trends Platform. Each stylist will discuss, demonstrate, and style different textiles and accessories to create today’s trendiest hijab-fashions.
“Hijab styling has become somewhat of an art form and differs from region to region, and culture to culture,” said Alia Khan, Chairwoman of the IFDC. “There are so many different ways to tie your hijab and each way affirms our sense of expression through creativity. We are excited to see how the stylists showcase the number of different ways that hijabs can be styled to accentuate the beauty of Islamic fashion, or iFash, and help fashionistas find new and exciting ways to tie up.”
IFDC’s hijab tutorials will be presented daily, within the Modest Trends area, by well-known stylists Maha Khalid, the Founder of the Hijab Clinic, the super-popular blogger/stylist, Zareen Shah – creator of TheHijaab.com, and fashion editor and stylist, Malika Laurent.
Hijab Tutorial Stylists
Maha Khalid: Maha founded the Hijab Clinic following the realisation that hijab style was dependent on facial features as well as the wearer’s personality and fashion sense. As a business owner, mother, architect and stylist, she looks to create styles to meet the expectation of modern stylish women, and has been involved in a number of television shows and productions, taking her hijab styling to the masses.
Zareen Shah: If you’ve ever clicked on the ever-so-popular TheHijaab.com, you will know entrepreneur, make-up artist, style and beauty blogger, Zareen Shah, AKA Zhijaab. Her sassy style and passion for international travel allow for fun and trendy style-blazing, with Zareen offering a fresh take on iFash™ streetwear. Being born in Bahrain, with a Filipino and Pakistani heritage, and raised in Dubai has enabled her to put forth the perfect amalgamation of creativity, flair and iFash-fabulousness!
Malika Laurent: A fashion editor, stylist, buyer and image consultant as well as being a lover of fashion and admittedly having a guilty addiction to shoes, London-born Malika has a passion for creating beautiful things. She has worked with the likes of Issey Miyake, Dolls Maison and Seek & Revive to name a few, all over the world including Paris, Zurich, Cape Town, Spain and Morocco. Her aim in life … very simply to get you looking and feeling wonderful. Who could ask for more?
Tutorial timings for both days will be as follows and are open to the public:
1st Daily Hijab tutorial: 12.45
2nd Daily Hijab Tutorial: 14:15
3rd Daily Hijab Tutorial: 17:15
ITF will run from 10:00 until 18:00 on 26 April and 27 April 2015 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. In addition to the hijab tutorials, the Modest Trends Area will also feature an iFash™ designer showcase, and those seeking a stimulating discussion can see IFDC’s panel discussion (on 26 April at 16:30) on: Artistic Flow Begins Here – A Look at Creativity in Modest Fashion Through Textiles.
